More about ADHD

ADHD is developmental disorder associated with developmentally inappropriate levels of inattention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity. Symptoms of ADHD can impair functioning across multiple domains, including education, daily living and relationships. ADHD begins in childhood and can continue into the teen years and adulthood.

The criteria for diagnosis of ADHD specifies there are three different ways ADHD presents itself: predominantly inattentive presentation, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation, and combined presentation.

Common signs of ADHD in children and young people can include:

  • Having a short attention span
  • Being easily distracted
  • Making careless mistakes
  • Struggling to remember information
  • Regularly losing things
  • Difficulty sticking to tedious or time-consuming tasks
  • Challenges with listening or following instructions
  • Difficulties sticking to one activity or task
  • Inability to sit still when expected
  • Consistently fidgeting
  • High activity levels
  • Talking to excess
  • Challenges with turn-taking
  • Acting without thinking
  • Interrupting or intruding on others
  • Poor sense of danger
