More about ADHD

ADHD is a developmental disorder associated with persistent and pervasive difficulties with inattention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity. Symptoms of ADHD can impair functioning across multiple domains, including education/occupation, daily living and relationships.

As ADHD is a developmental disorder, it cannot develop in adults without being present during childhood. However, sometimes ADHD was not recognised when someone was a child, and they are assessed later in life.

The criteria for diagnosis of ADHD specifies there are three different ways ADHD presents itself: predominantly inattentive presentation, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation and combined presentation.

Signs of ADHD in adults :

  • Difficulties with organisation and/or managing their time
  • Regularly losing or misplacing items
  • Being forgetful
  • Finding it hard to follow instructions
  • Challenges with focusing and completion of tasks
  • Difficulties in managing their stress levels
  • Keen interests in certain subjects or activities
  • Feelings of restlessness or lacking patience
  • Impulsiveness and/or risk-taking behaviours
